Hear from Dan Pearson, director of international programs at Unbound, about how your donation to the Critical Needs Fund will support families in crisis. Thank you for walking with families when they need it most.
Unbound’s Critical Needs Fund provides essential support to sponsored members and their families during times of crisis. Natural disasters, health crises and other unexpected setbacks take a disproportionate toll on people living in poverty, often destroying what headway families have made in improving their situations.
The Critical Needs Fund provides relief in situations like:
Your gift allows families and Unbound staff to address needs such as housing repairs, nutrition assistance, rescue equipment and medical support.
Bleidys, Colombia
In 2020, Bleidys and her family were severely impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lockdown conditions, in addition to the loss of Bleidys’s grandfather from coronavirus, caused her parents to consider suspending tuition payments to prioritize the purchase of food and other resources for the family. Additional support from the Critical Needs Fund allowed Bleidys to stay in school and provide for the family’s needs.
Teresita, Philippines
After several severe typhoons which are common in the region, Teresita, a sponsored elder in the Philippines, needed a new roof and door to keep herself, her daughter and her grandchildren safe and dry. Assistance from the Critical Needs Fund helped to repair Teresita’s plywood and cement home.

Charity, Kenya
Charity, a 16-year-old sponsored child in Kenya, was hospitalized with COVID-19 in 2020. Within one day, Unbound provided her mother Catherine with emergency financial relief from the Critical Needs Fund to pay her hospital bills. This assistance also allowed her five children, including Charity post-recovery, to continue their education, a top priority for Catherine as a mathematics and Christian education teacher.
