Flooding caused by monsoon rains coinciding with Tropical Depression Luis and Tropical Cyclone Maymay, known internationally as Kujira, affected 65 Unbound-sponsored families in the Philippines, forcing some to leave their homes and seek shelter in evacuation centers while others moved to higher areas within their homes to stay safe.
According to news reports, at least 16 people died following the monsoon rains, intensified by the tropical storms, which caused subsequent floods and landslides. Roadways in many areas have been blocked by a combination of floodwaters and traffic.
In Quezon, 14 sponsored families reported knee-deep floodwaters inside their homes, creating dangerous conditions as heavy rains continued.
In Manila, 25 of the 51 sponsored families affected sought refuge in evacuation centers as floodwaters rose. The remaining families stayed in their homes, sheltering in elevated areas while waiting for water levels to recede.

Massive flooding has impacted families and communities served by Unbound as floodwaters reached knee-level and infiltrated homes in Quezon.
In Quezon, 14 families reported knee-deep water inside their homes.
Government agencies and local authorities continue relief operations in affected communities, providing assistance to families impacted by the flooding and monitoring areas at risk.
Unbound is assessing the situation of affected families to identify immediate needs and determine what resources and assistance will be required during recovery efforts. Through ongoing outreach, staff will identify families who need additional support as they clean and repair their homes and replace essential belongings damaged by floodwaters.
As heavy rains continue to affect parts of the country, Unbound remains focused on the safety and well-being of sponsored families and on helping communities respond to and recover from the flooding.
As outreach and assessments continue, Unbound will likely activate its Critical Needs Fund to support families affected by the flooding.
Families were displaced to shelters or forced to seek shelter in higher elevations following the flooding; Unbound teams are currently assessing the full impact.
