Awareness Trips to El Salvador

Get ready for the trip of a lifetime!

On your trip to El Salvador, you will be welcomed by the local staff who will be your hosts for the week. You will visit the homes and communities of sponsored friends and learn about their joys and challenges while experiencing the beauty of the Salvadoran people.

This covers food, lodging and most in-country transportation.
Airfare is not included.

Sample Itineraries

A detailed schedule will be sent one to two weeks prior to departure. Unbound will make every effort to offer the opportunity to attend Mass on Saturday night or Sunday.

September and August Trips

Day 1
Arrival in San Salvador, the capital city of Central America’s smallest country. Local Unbound staff will welcome you at the airport and take you to our office in Santa Ana, where you will be lodging.
Days 2-5
Meet local children, teenagers and elders. Learn of their hopes, dreams, and the challenges they face. Visit the homes of Unbound’s sponsored members and see what it is like to live in this region of El Salvador. Meet some of our sponsored members’ mothers and get to know what they are doing with your support to create their own path out of poverty. Dance and enjoy a work out class with some of the elders in the program.
Day 6
Spend the day with your sponsored friends at a local park and enjoy sliding down water slides and playing games with them.
Day 7
Learn about El Salvador's history. Visit San Salvador, including the chapel where Saint Óscar Romero was martyred. After, go to a beach hotel for your last afternoon and night in El Salvador.
Day 8
Return home.

November Trips (include hands-on activities)

Day 1
Arrival in San Salvador, the capital city of Central America’s smallest country. Local Unbound staff will welcome you at the airport and take you to our office headquarters in Santa Ana, where you will be lodging.
Day 2
Visit the families in the community of Tacuba and enjoy a day filled with traditions, culture and celebration.
Day 3
Travel to Ataco to learn about ways that mothers in this community contribute to their family’s self-sufficiency and participate in the production of items such as tortillas and tamales.
Days 4-5
Learn about coffee farming from Salvadoran families. Spend time together picking coffee in the fields and learn about the production of the final product. Appreciate the skills and expertise of Salvadoran families as they share about their livelihood.
Day 6
Spend the day with your sponsored friends at a local water park and enjoy sliding down water slides and playing games with them.
Day 7
Learn about El Salvador’s history. Visit San Salvador, including the chapel where Saint Óscar Romero was martyred. After, go to a beach hotel for your last night in El Salvador.
Day 8
Local Unbound staff shuttles travelers to the airport for their flight home from San Salvador.

Note: The November trip will require a medical release form signed by the participant’s doctor, as it more strenuous then our other awareness trips.
