Santa Cruz and Cochabamba Sample Itinerary

Join us for the week-long trip which visits Santa Cruz and Cochabamba, or extend your time in Bolivia and also visit the beautiful city of La Paz with Unbound.

A detailed schedule and additional information will be sent one to two weeks prior to departure. Unbound will make every effort to offer the opportunity to attend Mass on Saturday night or Sunday.

Day 1
Local Unbound staff will welcome you to the city of Santa Cruz, located in the tropical lowlands east of the Andean mountains. You may have to depart your home airport one day early in order to arrive on time.
Days 2-3
Meet your sponsored friend from Santa Cruz and explore the city while learning about the diversity of the country. Visit communities served by Unbound in this Bolivian metropolis and the surrounding rural area.
Day 4
Spend the day in Santa Cruz and then travel by air to Cochabamba, known as the food lovers capital of Bolivia.
Days 5-6
Meet your sponsored friends from Cochabamba and enjoy discovering delicious Bolivian foods. Travelers not joining the side trip to La Paz will meet their La Paz sponsored friends in Cochabamba.
Day 7
Visit families in their homes and experience beautiful celebrations, including cultural dances, in their communities overlooking the city. You will also visit the Cristo de la Concordia and see beautiful vistas of the Andes and its valleys. From Cochabamba, either return by air to Santa Cruz or travel by air to La Paz to join the Unbound trip to La Paz.
Day 8
Return home from Santa Cruz.

La Paz Sample Itinerary

Don’t miss this opportunity to visit a third region of Bolivia! The regions of Santa Cruz, Cochabamba and La Paz each have their own unique traditions, cuisine and landscape. We encourage you to extend your trip with Unbound in order to visit La Paz.

Ranging from 10,600 feet to over 13,000 feet above sea level, La Paz is the highest administrative capital in the world. The city is renowned for its unique markets, unusual topography and traditional culture.

Day 7
Travel to La Paz by air and arrive at night, which will help you acclimate to the thin air of this high-altitude Andean city.
Day 8
Visit the Unbound office in La Paz and learn more about the program and how the staff work with sponsored families. Travel by the aerial cable car urban transit system known as “Mi Teleferico” (My Cable Car) to the city of El Alto. It is part of the La Paz metropolitan area and is at 13,000 ft. above sea level. You may get a glimpse of Mt. Illimani, one of the highest peaks in Bolivia.
Day 9
Meet your sponsored friend and travel to communities where Unbound works. See breathtaking views and discover La Paz’s famous “cebritas,” volunteers dressed in zebra costumes who help pedestrians to cross busy streets.
Day 10
The Unbound families and elders celebrate your visit to their community with demonstrations of folkloric dancing. You may be invited to don the traditional clothing of the region, which includes the “pollera” (pleated-skirt) and bowler hats. Take a short walk through La Paz’s historic main square and visit a souvenir market.
Day 11
Begin your journey home from La Paz in the morning. You might arrive at your home airport the same, or next, day.

A note to La Paz sponsors: Sponsors with sponsored friends in the La Paz program who are only joining the week-long trip will see them in Cochabamba. However, La Paz sponsors who join the trip to La Paz will see their sponsored friend in La Paz rather than in Cochabamba.
