Unbound sponsor Joaquin Toro received this year’s Carlos F. Cortes Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City on Thursday, Nov. 8. Toro was honored for his contributions to the chamber’s mission and his long-time support of the Unbound organization.

Toro and his wife, Maria, have been sponsors through Unbound for 13 years. They currently sponsor two young girls from Colombia and India. According to his nomination letter, Toro has helped more than 30 members of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce become sponsors through Unbound.

“Being an Unbound sponsor for the last 13 years has made me more aware of my purpose of life: sharing happiness and helping make changes in the lives of others,” Toro said. “After learning more about Unbound, their values, culture and commitment to their staff, I knew that I had to spread the word about their work.”

“We are thrilled to celebrate Joaquin’s dedication and service,” said Andrew Kling, community outreach director at Unbound. “As an Unbound sponsor, Joaquin is proof that local action can have global impact, whether that’s helping Unbound children and families around the world or supporting small businesses here in Kansas City.”
