Sponsorship as a direct expression of faith

“The Chosen” actor Jonathan Roumie shares why sponsoring a child through Unbound was important to him

What if you had the chance to radically change someone's life?

Actor Jonathan Roumie found that opportunity through Unbound four years ago when he sponsored a child living in poverty in Tanzania. But that was just the start of his sponsorship journey and answering the Gospel call to serve the poor.

Roumie portrays Jesus in the hit TV series “The Chosen,” which has touched the lives of millions of viewers worldwide since it first aired in 2017. Set to release its fourth season, “The Chosen” is a historical drama series about the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth, told mostly through the eyes of the people who encountered him.

Now, Roumie has partnered with Unbound to sponsor again and shine a light on the 20,000 other children and elders awaiting sponsorship through the organization. This time, Roumie’s sponsorship brings hope to a 6-year-old girl and her family in Rwanda and makes her Unbound’s 1 millionth sponsored friend, a historic milestone for the organization.

“Sponsoring a child is a direct expression of faith,” Roumie said. “You’re helping the poor. You’re trying to walk with them as Christ would walk with the neediest.”

Watch the video above to learn more about Roumie’s journey to sponsorship and special partnership with Unbound, filmed during his recent visit to the organization’s global headquarters in Kansas City.
