An elder's livelihood preserves local traditions while helping the environment

Along the shore of Lake Atitlán in Guatemala, Pedro, an Unbound sponsored elder, and his indigenous community have built their livelihoods by practicing the art of traditional Mayan mat-weaving. By growing and harvesting a key fiber, tule reeds, to make the mats, they’re also helping sustain a healthy ecosystem for one of Central America’s most beautiful lakes.
