Walking in solidarity with the poor

Since 1981, Unbound has walked with families on their paths out of poverty.

The Walk

Have you seen Unbound accountant Jake Hentzen on the road?

Beginning Sept. 1, 2021, Jake is walking across the state of Kansas, the home of Unbound’s global headquarters.

Jake follows in the footsteps of his dad, Unbound co-founder Bob Hentzen, who walked from Kansas City to Guatemala in 1996, and then from Guatemala to Chile in 2009, showing families in the Unbound program that they weren’t alone.

Today, in honor of 40 years on the road with families, Jake symbolically walks in solidarity with more than 280,000 Unbound sponsored members and 2000 staff in 19 countries worldwide.

The Work

In 2021, Unbound is celebrating 40 years on the road with families.

It all started when our five co-founders, Bob, Bud and Jim Hentzen, their sister Nadine Pearce and their friend Jerry Tolle pooled their Christmas card lists and asked their friends and relatives to partner with families in need. Since then, we’ve delivered $2 billion in aid worldwide to nearly a million sponsored friends thanks to our generous supporters.
