Who is... um, who or what are Lily Likes?
Okay, I don't get why I get such a kick out of this, but I do: finding Lily-like faces and/or artwork. I suppose it comes from such a strong desire to see such a sweet woman come to life, and when finding a face that resonates with my image of Lily, I'm instantly attracted. The constants necessary are her cobalt blue eyes, thick raven black hair, heart shaped face, her generous lips, not overly so, and prone to a ready smile. (That's not much to ask, is it?) I think ever since seeing Liv Tyler's GQ cover (see right) I've been trying to keep topping my list with "Most Lily-Like". That's a gorgeous picture that exhibits Lily's happy nature better than any I've seen yet. (I'll put any photos for this subject into the Photo Album by and by.)
Who else do we have?
Here are three off the top of my head: Charlize Theron as she appeared in Aeon Flux, Kate Beckinsale as she appeared in Underworld (blue-eyes moments), and Milla Jovovich as she appeared in Ultraviolet. Plus, I have to add Liv Tyler in just about anything where her hair is long and black. Really, it's hard to come up with a perfect Lily-like, but I keep looking. Like I can stop.
Two singers/songwriters/artists have characterized Lily's two extremes very well in their videos, namely Kate Bush in the beautiful "The Sensual World" video (happy), and Amy Lee of Evanescence in the "My Immortal" video (sorrowful). As a matter of fact, I felt that Evanesence's first album "Fallen" was incredibly drenched with atmosphere from UNBOUND. Half of the songs were referenced in the novel through one character's eyes or another's. Really, I was shocked! It's as if Amy was channeling Lily (hm... I wonder if my Muse is two-timing me?...)
(I was going to insert some "Fallen" lyrics, but any of them would be too revealing or spoilerish! Ditto for Kate's "Lily." *sigh* -I just can't reveal too much at this point!)
Two other songs come to mind, but they're instrumentals: The Jeff Beck Group's "Girl From Mill Valley" (even though she's not) featuring the piano magic of Nicky Hopkins, and Lily's theme song from the five hour long soundtrack I taped for the novel, "Lovely Child of Tears," by Jeremy Steig & the Satyrs.
I've gone so far as to create little Lilys in other arenas as well, most notably on IMVU, a 3D Chat service on which she has a page (as does her co-worker, Eden), and can get dressed up and chat in different figurative-literal "rooms" of various designs. They have extensive modifications, and a huge clothing catalog, but it's still a glorified (if very fun) chat room, and seemingly skewed young-ish, though they have some adult themes and controlled nudity. Lily doesn't want an adult's access pass though; she doesn;'t go for that LOL
In Oblivion (the P.C. game) using their included FaceGen program I designed Lily as faithfully as I could (and she completed the game, kick-ass!). Also, while writing the last drafts and taking game-breaks between sessions, I would always make a female character for the game's avatar and name her Lily. I made sure that somehow she never left my sight or thoughts as writing this Novel was priority number one. For one purpose: to get this story to you. The Muse has told me that you want a story, one that she feels we need. Let's see if she is right!
