Storm damages CFCA community in Philippines

May 13, 2011

LEGAZPI, Philippines — Tropical storm Aere (local name "Bebeng") swept through the northern Philippines on May 9. It caused dozens of casualties, but no CFCA sponsored members, families or staff members were injured.

Disaster update

The storm damaged the homes of about 100 sponsored children and aging members in Legazpi, said Legazpi Coordinator Gari Olivario. At this time, the Libon community served by CFCA appears to have suffered the most impact.

"The project, through our local CFCA parent group in that area, already extended our help," Olivario said. "We have provided the families with their basic needs."

The project offers families food, water, temporary shelter and clothing for the short term. It is assessing the extent of the damage and what type of additional assistance is most needed by the families.

An update on the impact to sponsored members and their families will be published to this website as more information becomes available.

Please keep the people of the Philippines in your prayers during this time.
