India flooding hits one CFCA subproject

October 7, 2009

CUDDAPAH, India — One CFCA subproject was affected by the record floods that struck sections of southern India in early October, according to field staff.

Suresh Singareddy, coordinator of the Cuddapah, Warangal and Hyderabad projects, said most sponsored members in the region were not in the path of the century’s worst flooding in the province of Andhra Pradesh.

However, the DVR subproject experienced some flooding, Singareddy said.

“The DVR subproject in Cuddapah had a little impact of the flood when water gushed into many houses but luckily receded back within a day,” he said.

CFCA sponsors 22 youth and aging members in the DVR subproject.

Floodwaters were receding from most villages on Oct. 7 in the province’s Krishna and Guntur districts and in Karnataka. According to the Times of India, 275 people died in the floods and 366,138 people fled to shelters.
