About Lillian Naka
Lillian Naka was born and raised in the coastal city of Mombasa, Kenya. She attended Mtongwe primary and Likoni Secondary School where she won various awards in public speaking and drama competitions.
Her first degree was in Community Health from the University of South Africa (UNISA). With 300,000 students, UNISA is the largest university in Africa. Lillian is currently pursuing her second degree there in Government Administration and Development (Distance learning).
Lillian is also a longtime volunteer with Community Empowerment Collective (CEC) where she translates online community development materials from English to Swahili. She also volunteered with and continues to support the missionary community of Saint Paul in Turkana.
Lillian is known for her good humor and persistence.
She first applied to work at Unbound in 2007. She traveled more than 6 hours by bus and was arrested for a seatbelt violation. Police took her directly to court, making her hours late for the interview. Unfortunately, she didn't get the job.
Two years later, Lillian was called for another interview. This time she buckled up and was welcomed to the Unbound team in August of 2009.
She currently serves as a Mothers Group Coordinator in the Nairobi project.
She helps mothers of sponsored children organize their own support groups and guides them through the Unbound program initiatives.
Please join us for refreshments and a special presentation from Lillian Naka on February, 13, 2014 at 6 p.m.
